By Ihechukwu Sunday,
Former chairman of the People Demicratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Vita Abba has resigned from the party after years of service. Abba announced his decision to explore new paths in a letter to his ears chairman, Ede-Nta ward in Nsukka Local Government Area, yesterday.
Part of the letter read: “After profound introspection and meticulous deliberation, I hereby tender my formal resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP has been a cornerstone of my political odyssey, affording me the privilege of serving as the state Chairman (2007-2014), and most recently, the flag bearer in the 2023 election for the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency and more.
“I remain eternally grateful for the trust bestowed upon me, the party’s support and the camaraderie extended to me by leaders and members at all echelons. However, I have come to realize that it’s time for me to explore new paths and contribute to the nation in different ways.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to you, the ward executives, all the party organs and members for your support, amity and shared moments of service.”
Safereporters gathered that the news has sent shockwaves throughout the state’s political landscape, with many awaiting his next move.
Though the former PDP chieftain did not mention the party he was defecting to, some analysts are of the opinion that he may be moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as there have been such political defections in the state in recent time.
Our reporter also gathered that Abba’s resignation is a big blow to the PDP in the state as he is one of the pillars holding the party in the state for over two and a half decades now.
