Officers of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly called So-Safe Corps, have arrested a 20-year-old man simply identified as Ridwan for allegedly killing his father.
Ridwan was alleged to have brutally murdered his father for ritual purposes as he removed his genitals, larynx and four of his teeth.
A statement by the Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, on behalf of the State Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, said the incident happened at 12:00hrs on Thursday, August 31 at Oshoku village in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the Ogun State.
According the statement, officers of the corps, who were on a routine patrol heard a strange noise coming from a building within the vicinity and decided to find out what the noise was all about. “When they entered into the building, the officers were shocked to find a lacertated body of a man in the pool of blood. The alleged killer also fled and escaped from the scene,” the statement said.
The State Commander, Ganzallo gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the Commander, Ijebu Zonal Command, Marcus Ayankoya to get the suspected killer. Ayankowa and his men swung into action and in less than 24 hours, Ridwan was smoked out from the bush where he was bidding and handed over to the police.
In his confession, Ridwan admitted to killing his own father, Ishau, with a rope tied to his neck, while he used a knife to remove the needed parts of his body for ritual purpose.
According to Ganzallo, the suspect said he only removed his father’s private part, larynx and four teeth as the ritualist he identified as Baba Kekere demanded.
“The suspect, however, has refused to disclose the whereabouts of the said ritualist. But, the case has been transferred to the Ogbere Division of the Nigeria Police for further investigation and prosecution,” Ganzallo stated.
